  • Who can come on these trips?
Youth trips are designed for youth ages 15-19. Mature 13-14 year olds are also invited with an accompanying parent, because most airlines require you to be 14 years old to travel alone. Parents are also invited on these trips to have their own experience.
  • What are the accommodations?
For our standard youth and family trips we stay at a small hotel with shared rooms and private bathrooms with warm water. It is safe, private, and comfortable.
  • Is the trip safe?
Safety is our top priority. The Lake Atitlan area is extremely safe and where we raised our kids for ten years. We have several safety rules we always follow with our groups. We use private transportation with our own drivers. We stay in safe and private lodging. We always stay together as a group.
  • Do I need a passport or visa to travel?
All participants will need a valid passport with at least 6 months validity for travel. Upon arrival in Guatemala, you will receive a 90 day visa to cover your stay.
  • What happens if I need medical care during the trip?
All participants are required to have a basic and inexpensive medical travel insurance policy. (We will give you the information for the policy before you come.) We have very good private healthcare available for any emergency.
  • Who are the staff for the trip?
We, Greg and Vicky, are your private hosts for the week. Our grown children are often part of the staff as well. The Cultiva International field team (Juan, Willy, Juana, and Elena) is also very involved with our groups.
  • What is the food like and can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Most meals are served at the hotel. Meals are healthy and plentiful and served buffet style. We will also eat in local restaurants during the trip. We can easily accommodate any dietary restrictions.
  • How do flights work?
The arrival airport is Guatemala City, airport code GUA. Arrive in Guatemala before 2pm and depart after 12pm if possible.
  • Do I need vaccinations to travel to Guatemala?
Guatemala does not require any vaccinations for entry.
